About me
JOSH ROY
Josh Roy is a British-born, 19-year old entrepreneur, AI ethicist and globally-recognised innovator based in the US. Obsessed with developing technology for positive change through intergenerational collaboration, Josh has made significant strides in biotechnology, AI and social entrepreneurship.
As a member of The Knowledge Society (TKS), Josh gained global recognition in February 2024 by winning the annual TKS Global Hackathon. His innovative AI-optimised gene editing tool to combat Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD) through modified whiteflies has the potential to enhance food security for 35 million Nigerians within just 11 months. This groundbreaking project, validated by leaders like the Global Head of Data Science at GSK, was showcased at London Tech Week 2024 and earned Josh a scholarship from the prestigious Villars Institute's inaugural ecopreneurship program.
Mentored by influential leaders such as Kabir Mathur (CEO, Leen), John Spence (Chairman, Karma Group) and Manoj Thacker (Former Board Advisor, Intel), Josh's entrepreneurial endeavours have been recognised by organisations like the World Economic Forum, Google and Imperial College London. His work has been featured on world stages like London Tech Week, 1517 Summit and the Global Entrepreneurship Festival in Nigeria, where he received the Global Entrepreneurs Award from African Young Entrepreneur's Organisation, where the President of Nigeria serves as the Chief Patron.
Beyond his innovations, Josh is dedicated to mentoring his generation of young innovators. He has guided around 300 youths at the 1517 Fund’s annual summit in Toronto and has been nominated for The Diana Award for his contributions to innovation and community impact.
In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Josh is an accomplished tabla player, having earned a First Class Diploma from the Bhavan, the UK’s foremost Indian music conservatoire, and holds the record for being the first student in the UK to complete the GCSE Music practical component on tabla at the age of 12, as well as the first to learn and implement the revolutionary Indian drum notation system.
Josh also hosts the CapitalTycoon podcast, which reaches listeners in 20+ countries, sharing insights on entrepreneurship and innovation with a global audience.
